Additional travel alert notices have been added to Google’s search results, and update to its trip planning tools
Google’s user-friendly feature improvements will help it maintain a competitive advantage in the online travel business.
Google search will now include additional COVID-related travel alerts and restriction information, the company revealed on Wednesday. Google is also releasing a redesigned Explore section for its travel planning website, as well as road trip functionality for Maps on desktop.
More travel advisory and restriction information.
Users will see travel limitation details (seen above) for their destination while searching for flights, hotels, or other travel-related queries on Google. Visitors may be required to provide immunization records, verification of test results, or quarantine once they arrive.
By activating the “get an email if this guidance changes” checkbox when logged in to their Google account, users can keep track of travel advisories. They’ll be notified if limits are introduced, withdrawn, or lessened once they’ve done so. These alerts are unique to the destination country, although information for specific states in the United States is also accessible.
These new tools complement Google’s August 2020 travel trends and alert messages.
The redesigned Explore section.
Google.com/travel will now have a new Explore section, according to the business. Google has added the ability to filter destinations by interests, allowing users to see additional locations on the map, such as national parks and smaller cities (outdoors, beaches, skiing, etc.). To show just cities with airports, use the “Travel Mode” option at the top of the map. Travel warnings and limitations are displayed when users pick a destination.
Road trip support for Maps on desktop.
Google Maps for desktop now allows you to organize a road trip. Users can choose from many types of sites to stop at after inputting a beginning location and destination using the options at the top of the page. This feature is already accessible in the Maps app for Android and iOS.
Why we care.
Since 2010, when it purchased flight information software company ITA Software to construct its flight search engine. Google has made itself a prominent participant in the internet travel market through feature developments and acquisitions. With this recent release, the company solidifies its position as an all-in-one trip planning tool that can assist consumers in comparing flights, hotels, and car rentals. Make road travels a priority and remains up to date on travel limitations.
This is expected to retain consumers within the Google ecosystem, making it more difficult for Google’s travel sector competitors. Many of these user-oriented updates, as is the case with many of these user-oriented updates. There may also be trickle-down implications for marketers. As we must promote to our audiences on the platforms that they utilize (in this example, Google).
